Portrait and Beauty Lighting
Course Overview:
Look at any magazine, hair shoot or ad campaign and you will see the use of stunning portrait and beauty lighting techniques.
This course is designed to teach you how to light and shoot this ever-popular style of shot. The course is aimed at complete beginners through to advanced amateurs, and is a practical hand’s on course.
A model will be provided for you to practise with, and advice on directing the model and posing technique will be given.
Learn to work with studio lights safely and confidently. You will learn the effect of soft boxes, umbrellas, snoots, beauty dish and grid sets and how to use gold, silver and white fill in reflectors.
You will be shown how to use both soft and hard lighting to change the mood and effect of a portrait, and how make up is adapted for studio lighting conditions.
Learn how to use a light meter to measure the studio lights for optimum exposures, and how to shoot a portrait or beauty shot with single or multiple lighting plans.
Learn what a main lights function is; and how to use fill lights, back lights and hair lights and be shown how they affect the final image.
You’ll be advised on the correct lenses and aperture settings for creating sharp portrait and beauty photos.
The teaching is presented in an easy to understand and relaxed and entertaining manner. You will walk away from this course with the skills to develop and improve your studio and portrait technique.

Camera Requirements:
You must have an SLR camera to part take in this course, arrangements can be made to hire cameras if you don’t own one, please ask when booking.
